Adding Your Products

Now that you’ve finished the WooCommerce setup wizard and you’re ready to set up your shop, the product adding system is easy and user-friendly. To add your products follow the guide below.

Adding a Product

  1. On the left side of your admin panel navigate through Products > Add Product
  2. Add the product name in the first field, this will be shown in the shop page and in search results.
  3. Continue adding the product description, write as much as you can because later you can add a shorter description which will show less of it.
  4. Scroll to the Product Data, where you will be able to select the product type (see the list of product types) and set the price, attributes such as color, size and other settings.
  5. In the Product Short Description field, enter a short descriptive text of your product.
  6. Add a Product Image on the right side of your editor.
  7. Continue adding more images of the product in the Product Gallery.
  8. To filter your products through categories, add it to a category and if there is no category you can create it from Product Categories.
  9. If you want to filter it even more then continue adding Product Tags.
  10. Wohoo! You’re finished, click on Publish and your product will go online. You can update the product whenever you want, so you can edit it later.

Supported Product Types

WooCommerce has 6 main types of products, and they are:

  • Simple – covers the vast majority of any products you may sell. Simple products are shipped and have no options. For example, a book.
  • Grouped – a collection of related products that can be purchased individually and only consist of simple products. For example, a set of six drinking glasses.
  • Virtual – one that doesn’t require shipping. For example, a service.
  • Downloadable – much like a virtual product, but customers are given a downloadable file. For example, digital album, PDF magazine, or photo.
  • External or Affiliate – one that you list and describe on your website but is sold elsewhere.
  • Variable – a product with variations, each of which may have a different SKU, price, stock option, etc. For example, a t-shirt available in different colors and/or sizes.
  • Other types are often added by extensions. For example, WooCommerce Subscriptions adds new product types as does WooCommerce Bookings.
